Understanding the Difference Between Users and Residents
On a property, you can associate two types of occupants — Users and Residents.
Both are linked to the property, but they serve different purposes and hold different types of information.
Users
Users represent individuals who have access to Watchtower and a defined role within a property.
-
Has a role — such as Manager, Owner, Resident, or Tenant.
-
Login access — each user must have a unique email address to sign in.
-
Optional contact details — a phone number can also be added.
-
Vehicle association — vehicles can be tied directly to a user.
Users are typically people who interact with Watchtower — managing details or viewing property information based on their role.
Residents
Residents are simpler records used to represent individuals living at a property who do not require system access.
-
Basic information only — first and last name.
-
No email or phone number required.
-
No role assigned — they are always treated as residents in the system.
Residents are ideal for recording occupancy information when you don’t need to create a full user account for each person.
